I know what you're all thinking. Another food blogger? Really? Do we need more of this out here on the Internets?
Look, I'm not really doing this for me. Well, I kind of am doing it for me, but a few friends have told me that they'd just love to have step-by-step instructions on some of my recipes. I think they're all a bit in the realm of ridiculous, but who am I to deny my friends what they wish? So here I am. Another food blogger.
My name is Caitlin. I'm an English major at a fairly large university that's a bit more well-known for its engineering and agricultural programs. I have a very Southern cooking background (well not cooking, more consuming, I didn't start cooking until a little over a year ago) and since going to college have branched out into at the very least tasting other cuisines. My family wouldn't touch sushi with a ten-foot-pole. I think that raw tuna is one of the greatest foods ever. With this decidedly mixed-up outlook on my food, I started searching the Internet for recipes, the more complicated the better. It all started out with a cupcake-baking obsession which gradually grew into stovetop adventures. I've tried just about everything, from carbonara to ratatouille to pho to good ol' chicken and dumplings. I believe in bacon grease and other animal byproducts, so if you're a vegan you should probably stay away from my kitchen. If you're vegetarian, I'll be nice and make you some tofu because I like that stuff too.
Above all, I believe in cooking being affordable. My biggest splurge to date has been a couple of steaks. Otherwise, I try to shop inexpensively and more often than not can make two- to four-serving meals that are delicious, healthy (in moderation), and haven't bankrupted me yet. I don't shy away from salt, sugar, butter, eggs, cream, breads, red meat, and other various evils, but still manage to fit into size six jeans. For now, anyway.
And so, with a point-and-shoot digital camera and a harried sense of humor (did I mention I'm also writing a novel?), I bring to you my cooking adventures.
